FEEL THE RYTHM
Panyard Sensations, hosted by the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) in conjunction with Pan Trinbago Incorporated, is a concert series that highlights Trinidad and Tobago’s national instrument, the steelpan, as well as the practitioners of this remarkable art form.
This series of weekend pan concerts usually take place in September every year and feature extensive and varied musical repertoires of some of the most popular steelbands in the the country. Fans usually can look forward to quite a few surprises from guest artistes and special performers who are incorporated into steelbands’ nightly line-ups.
“Panyard Sensations was born out of a need to not only showcase steelpan music, but to also showcase it within the context of its birthplace - the panyard. The rustic charm of the panyard is unique and is an integral part of this instrument’s history, and by extension, our people’s history. The panyard is a place of innovation and creation and we want people to experience that as well,” Angela Fox, Media/Communications liaison, Pantrinbago Incorporated explained.
The event, which has been running for seven years, continues to grow in its popularity and appeal with nationals and visitors alike. It provides an opportunity to give the country’s national instrument the year-round prominence that it deserves.
