The Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, will officially launch Tourism Park 2012, Mission: Xpedition on Friday 10th August 2012 at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya. This year, Tourism Park has expanded its offerings to showcase more of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture in celebration of the nation’s 50th Anniversary of Independence.
The Tourism Park 2012 theme, Mission: Xpedition, will carry through to the décor to reflect a jungle adventure with caves, water features, wildlife replicas and live animals all along a raised nature path.
The design is complimented by several new attractions at this year’s event, including a Carnival Village which will feature the presence of major stakeholder organizations including the National Carnival Bands Association, the Trinbago Unified Calyposonians Organisation, as well as historical displays and presentations from Carnival 2013.
The park will also feature a daily entertainment lineup including magical storytelling, performances of patriotic songs, an original play commemorating Trinidad and Tobago’s 50 years of independence, wire bending workshops and Zumba sessions. There will be workshop sessions which focus on the culture and heritage of Trinidad & Tobago and other tourism industry related topics.
Younger patrons can also enjoy interactive experiences at the petting zoo and the children’s play area in addition to puppet and magic shows.
In 2004, the first ever National Tourism Park was held for one week in August at the Centre of Excellence, and since its inception, the Park has aimed to provide patrons with tourism-focused, interactive experiences, such as the opportunity to interact with live animals, learn from our nation’s tour guides and view fun and educational videos within a highly entertaining atmosphere. This year, with a packed schedule of activities, a range of concessionaires, exhibition booths, presentations, entertainment and workshops Tourism Park will return to excellence with 10-days of educational fun.
Tourism Park Mission: Xpedition will run from August 10 to 19, between the hours of 10am to 6pm. The entrance fee for adults will be $15 and for children $5.
