News  Trinidad’s Top Beaches Rated Water Safe

The Tourism Development Company Limited of Trinidad and Tobago (TDC) is proud to announce that the company and its two signature beaches have been declared compliant with water safety guidelines set by the Environmental Management Authority (EMA).
In honour of this environmental achievement, the TDC was awarded the EMA’s Water Pollution Rules Registration Certificate as proof that the effluent tested at the discharge points of both the Maracas and Las Cuevas beaches meets the required safety standard.  These two beach facilities, situated on the popular north coast of Trinidad and managed by the TDC, are considered to be the island’s most frequented beaches as both local and international visitors converge on the sites to sample not only the sand and the surf, but also what is considered the famous bake and shark sandwich.

This recent achievement is not a singular effort, but signals the Company’s strict adherence to its mandate of responsible and sustainable development of Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism product to ensure the nation’s waterways and attendant ecosystems are not exploited or endangered, in spite of an aggressive development thrust.
The TDC also remains dedicated in its efforts to ensure that the waters of Trinidad and Tobago remain clean, pristine and ready for visitors and their families to frolic safely and with the confidence that the ecosystem is being preserved for future generations to come. To this end, the Company is working assiduously with the Environmental Authority to ensure that the water quality at both the Manzanilla and Vessigny Beach Facilities on the Southern end of Trinidad, which fall under the purview of the TDC, also meets the requirements of the Environmental Act.

The EMA for the last 25 years has developed and implemented policies and programmes for the effective management and wise use of the environment consistent with the objects of the Environmental Management Act.  Compliance monitoring is also a significant activity of the EMA to ensure that both corporations and private citizens conduct all events and activities within the bounds of the Act.
