In the streets, on the beaches, in small shops and large shopping centres, shoppers can discover many special finds. ELEGANT CHOCOLATE AND HIGH QUALITY FROM A LOCAL PLANTATION
People with a sweet tooth should not miss the chance to try locally made chocolates from international award-winning cocoa sourced on the islands. Local fruits such as passion fruit, mango and coconut are sometimes infused in the sumptuous chocolate creations.
The world-renowned Angostura bitters is produced in Trinidad and Tobago and widely available along with a variety of award-winning rums. Apart from the delectable fruits and chocolates, gourmet food lovers can tantalise their taste buds with indigenous chutneys, 'green seasoning' - a spicy green herb sauce or home-made pepper sauce.

Trinidad and Tobago has a growing cadre of creative designers and fashion labels, which are inspired by the the Caribbean’s laid back flair. The biggest stage for their grandiose and highly-detailed creations is the annual carnival. In the 'House of Jaipur' showroom in Port of Spain, elegant, glamorous clothing is sold which combines Indian fabrics and sewing work with modern cuts.
Handmade jewellery is also a beautiful souvenir - whether from natural materials such as wood and pearls or from gold and silver. You can also enjoy the typical sounds of the island with CDs from Soca to Gospel and Parang. You could even take home a steel drum: original or in miniature.
LARGE SHOPPING CENTRES AND LIVELY MARKETS
The large shopping centres in Trinidad are in the capital city Port of Spain, Valsayn and in San Fernando. In the inner city of Port of Spain there are rows of shops on Frederick, Charlotte and Henry Streets. The Main Street in Chaguanas is another shopping hot-spot.
A visit to the market or markets in the inner cities provide an ambience of lively trade where an abundance of fresh vegetables and fruit, meat, fish and other locally produced items are on offer. The San Antonio Green Market is another popular spot. Nestled in the Santa Cruz Valley an array of locally produced items and haberdashery items are available.
Shoppers will find great deals at the Carrington Street market, Scarborough, Pigeon Point, Crown Point and in the Gulf City Mall in Lowlands.
