Blue Flag Season opens at Las Cuevas Beach Facility.

As Trinidad and Tobago gets ready to welcome thousands of visitors for the 2015/2016 cruise season, the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Tourism, raised the Blue Flag for a second season at the Las Cuevas Beach Facility on Tuesday, November 17.

Trinidad’s Las Cuevas Bay is currently the only Blue Flag certified beach in the Southern English-speaking Caribbean. The internationally coveted Blue Flag status was bestowed on the beach 10 months ago after six years of work by the Tourism Development Company (TDC).Blue Flag is an international certification programme and eco-label which is granted to beaches and marinas which meet strict criteria for sustainable development, water quality, environmental education and management, safety and security.

Speaking at the event Joanna Moses-Wothke, National Coordinator, Blue Flag Trinidad and Tobago, congratulated the TDC on maintaining Blue Flag status at Las Cuevas beach for a second season. “Around the world many organisations have challenges in maintaining certification,” she revealed while addressing the officials from the Ministry of Tourism, TDC and members of the Blue Flag National Jury who are tasked with reviewing the certification status of local candidates.
