Tourism Development Company's Statement on Crime
The Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) wishes to assure the travelling public that Trinidad and Tobago is much more than what has appeared in recent headlines. Trinidad and Tobago is not the actions of a few criminal elements; a diverse culture, pristine beaches, one-of-a-kind eco-attractions, unique festivals and a warm, friendly people are what make this destination an intriguing and amazing Caribbean paradise.
The recent upsurge in criminal activity is being seriously addressed by the relevant Government and civil agencies in recognition of our responsibility to provide a safe and secure country for both our citizens and our valued visitors. As a people, we condemn all acts of violence and each year thousands of people from around the world visit Trinidad and Tobago; the overwhelming majority without incident.
The TDC maintains regular collaborative dialogue and continues to work closely with the police service and local authorities to ensure the continued safety and security of visitors and residents who wish to enjoy the best our islands offer. In addition to providing tourism and customer service sensitizing training for members of the security services, we are also working to ensure that the sites and attractions under our purview are well-patrolled and secured by both the police and reputable private security firms.
We understand that there are concerns, but we must emphasize that the island continues to be a popular and secure destination for those who reside and vacation in Trinidad & Tobago.
