Whether you practice fishing with hook and line, or prefer casting your tackle out on the open sea, Tobago is a sport angler's dream with exciting game fish, including blue marlin, white marlin, swordfish, wahoo, tuna, barracuda, dolphin (mahi-mahi) and shark. Fishing is good all year round in Tobago but the main offshore fishing season is October to June. The biggest months for marlin are February, March and April, when Tobago hosts the International Game Fishing Tournament.
There are several fishing charter operators based on the island and you can expect to pay upwards of US $650 per day, based on the size and type of vessel.
To preserve our stock of game fish many charter operators include a catch and release or tag and release programme.
If you simply want to relax with a few hours of fishing, you can cast a line from any part of the Tobago. Along the coast of popular resort districts Plymouth, Pigeon Point and Crown Point, you can find tarpon, mackerel, snappers, groupers, snook, permit, bonefish and any local fisherman will be happy to tell you what is biting and how to catch them.
